Born in Laos in 1971, Savanhdary came to Australia in 1979. Inspired by the Australian landscape, Lao traditional textiles, Indian miniatures and, in recent work, Japanese Buddhism, Savanhdary’s work illustrates a subtle and complex interweaving of visual form and cultural signification, representing stories of experience, memory and identity.
